Physical Recreation places around Campus

With busy college life many kids don’t have or want to take the time to go out and participate in physical activities.  According to the National Center for Bio-technical Information there has been a steady increase in the amount of obesity on college campuses.  There are many different places around campus that are easy to get to where different kinds of physical activities can take place which would fill the void of people’s laziness.  This map explores some of the places around campus and highlights some of the things that can be done there and how these can be healthy things for a person to go out and do.  I used the following criteria to analyze and evaluate the places I have chosen: What kinds of activities can be performed there, are these activities good or bad for your health, how much knowledge is required to participate in these activities at these places, good times to use these places, and any barriers to entry of the place.
To support these criteria I will include resources such as the websites relating to these places, my own observations and health websites related to physical activities and sports.  The places that I have chosen to evaluate using these criteria are the student recreation complex,  Tempe Town lake just north of campus,  A- mountain also known as Hayden Butte Preserve, and the intramural fields next to the student recreation complex.  All of these places have many different physical activities that can be performed there.  These activities can be anything from lifting weights to club sports, from jogging to hiking up a mountain.
The places will be analyzed on how good or bad they are for you based on the activities.  On places that involve running the more running that is involved is better for your body as running helps to keep you in ship and helps to keep your heart healthy.  There are studies that show that it is bad for your body as well such as your knees.  According to My Health News Daily running especially if not done properly can lead to the premature destruction of cartilage. To prevent this, a person needs to take baby steps per say in leading up to running long distances, and it takes some time to learn the proper technique to running.  Lifting weights can also be bad for your health if you do it improperly and you can get severely hurt doing it.  There are also many club sports or games that you can join at each of these places which will be explained in each annotation.
Barriers to entry are classified as whether it costs any money to get in, and what times that the locations are open to people using them.  The information found regarding these barriers was found on the websites of the respective places.  The knowledge required to participate in activities at these locations will be analyzed depending on what activities a person can perform there and some places may have more activities that require greater knowledge that others.  This will also be discussed in the annotations giving another evaluation criterion.  The places were chosen to be evaluated based on a few different criteria.  The first reason was they had to be places that were close to the ASU campus because otherwise no students will want to go to these places.  The second reason was that they had to be non NCAA related because the places related to the college sports around campus generally only allow their usage to athletes of the school.  Another reason was that these places had to be free and easy to get in to because everybody likes free things rather than having to pay for a normal gym membership.
Based on these criteria these places will be evaluated to find both their good aspects and their not so good aspects.  All of these places will help to fill the exercise void in college students lives just some will do it better than others.
